Textbook Media Press is pleased to announce the publication of the Field Guide Series for Mathematics. Authored by R. J. Swift, Mathematics Department Chair at Cal Poly Pomona, the series brings together concise, visual resources designed to help readers learn mathematical structures, recognize them in context, practice using them, and understand the connections among related ideas.
The series covers 13 topics. Each can be explored through a Field Guide, Field Cards, a Field Workbook, or an integrated Field Companion, allowing instructors and readers to choose the format that best suits the way they want to learn.
Four coordinated ways to work
Field Guide — Learn. Essential ideas, maps, methods, examples, warnings, and connections introduce the topic and provide a structure for further study.
Field Cards — Recognize. Rapid identification, formulas, and decision cues offer a portable reference for recognizing a problem and choosing a useful approach.
Field Workbook — Practice. Calculation, investigation, explanation, and exploration give readers opportunities to use the ideas themselves.
Field Companion — Integrate. The learning, recognition, and practice material is combined by topic in a single resource.
These formats share a purpose: to help readers move between an idea, the situations in which it appears, and the work of applying it. An instructor may want a concise companion to a course, while a student may need a reference to return to or a structured opportunity for additional practice.
Thirteen mathematical topics
The series spans:
- Trigonometry
- Integration Techniques and Infinite Series
- Vectors
- Div, Grad, Curl and the Integral Theorems
- Ordinary Differential Equations
- Combinatorics
- Probability Distributions
- Mathematical Statistics
- Real Analysis
- Complex Analysis
- Calculus
- Markov Chains
- Matrices
The breadth of the series allows readers to carry a familiar approach from one topic to another, while each resource remains focused on its own subject.
Choosing a resource for your course
The Field Guides form part of Textbook Media Press’s growing program of affordable textbooks and study resources for STEM courses. Instructors can explore the series and contact us about the topic and format most relevant to their teaching.
Formats and pricing
Digital and print editions are available, with prices starting at $14.95. Students can find current editions, format details, and prices at Textbook Media. Instructors interested in evaluating a resource for their course can contact the Press about review copies.
The October 28 announcement
On October 28, 2026, Textbook Media Press announced the series through EIN Presswire as part of its expanding mathematics program. Read the full press release.
